Microsoft Diversity!

In 2005, Microsoft received a 100% rating in the Corporate Equality Index from the Human Rights Campaign, a ranking of companies by how progressive the organization deems their policies concerning LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) employees. Partly through the work of the Gay and Lesbian Employees at Microsoft (GLEAM) group, Microsoft added gender expression to its anti-discrimination policies in April 2005, and the Human Rights Campaign upgraded Microsoft's Corporate Equality Index from its 86% rating in 2004 to its current 100% rating.

In April 2005, Microsoft received wide criticism for withdrawing support from Washington state's H.B. 1515 bill that would have extended the state's current anti-discrimination laws to people with alternate sexual orientations. Microsoft was accused of bowing to pressure from local evangelical pastor Ken Hutcherson who met with a senior Microsoft executive and threatened a national boycott of Microsoft's products. Microsoft also revealed they were paying evangelical conservative Ralph Reed's company Century Strategies a $20,000 monthly fee. Over 2,000 employees signed a petition asking Microsoft to reinstate support for the bill. Under harsh criticism from both outside and inside the company's walls, Microsoft decided to support the bill again in May 2005.

Microsoft hires many foreign workers as well as domestic ones, and is an outspoken opponent of the cap on H1B visas, which allow companies in the United States to employ certain foreign workers. Bill Gates claims the cap on H1B visas make it difficult to hire employees for the company, stating "I'd certainly get rid of the H1B cap."

Microsoft, the top abuser of H-1B and L-1 Visas is NO leader in supporting diversity, unless the reader defines diversity as:

Laying off thousands of highly qualified Americans and hiring their replacements exclusively offshore .

34% of MS employees are from India (source: impel India)

33% of MS Seattle workforce are temporary H-1B/L-1 visa workers.

Microsoft lobbyist and convicted felon, Jack Abramoff, masterminded the H-1B debacle.

Thanks to Microsoft greed and political $$$$$ Congress passed laws that make it legal for corporations to BYPASS Americans and recruit exclusively offshore for jobs in the USA.

There is no lack of skilled US talent.

Why can't Microsoft skilled US talent?
They don't want to.

Thousands of laid off Microsoft workers (like me) cannot find new jobs in Seattle. So what?

Many are homeless and live out of their cars.

Several face serious health concerns, and sadly, too many have committed suicide.

Unknowingly,by recognizing Microsoft's diversity leadership, this organization endorses Microsoft's egregious discrimination against American workers.

Microsoft deliberately hijacked American jobs offshore and they are a CAUSE of American unemployment, not the solution.

Give your kid a future.
Boycott Microsoft .

Well, with high-tech companies, diversity means it's 90%+ Indian workforce. As soon as an Indian becomes a manager, he only hires Indian. American students are forced to learn how to understand Indian accent. H1-B is all about cheap labor contrary to Microsoft says it's the talent. If it's the talent, then you would think that Microsoft would want to pay them higher. Why don't we impose a $100K tax per year paid up-front on each H1-B a company hires. So if a company wants to hire an H1-B which is valid for 6 years, the company must pay $600K up front. Guess what? H1-B suddenly disappears. So much for talk about talent and diversity. By the way, I know quite a few people at Microsoft and they told me that if you are an American, age 30+, don't bother applying at Microsoft. They favor H1-Bs who are younger and cheaper who are willing to work like a slave in order to stay in the U.S.
